Your Gluten-Free Diet Does Not Have To Be Boring Or Dull

By Mary And Vlady

Many people suffer today from celiac disease which means they have sensitivity to gluten. However, it's possible to live a healthy and comfortable life, enjoy many good foods, lose weight, and have some fun. You'll need to make some changes and this includes the way that you cook, and here are some tips to make your gluten-free diet easier to handle.

Better crusts for your pies - Just because your crusts have to be gluten-free (GF) doesn't mean they can't taste good or have a nice texture and consistency. If you want to avoid hard crusts, be sparing with the water, so use as little as you can. However, even the best efforts may end up with tears or cracks, but many of them can be smoothed out with a finger.

Store breads - There are many excellent GF bread products available in grocery stores these days. Yet, these are not the same breads that you may have grown up with. In fact, they can sometimes be difficult to make sandwiches with. However, if you keep them frozen until needed and toast them, you will get a better sandwich.

Home baked bread - To get bread that fills all your needs, you may need to do it yourself. It is not as hard as you may think if you use the right materials like GF flour and xanthum gum. This gum can make all the difference in the world when it comes to making breads. Also, you may make some mistakes in the beginning, but don't throw them away. They might make good bird stuffing material or filler for your meatloaf.

Lactose and gluten - Many people with celiac disorder also have problems digesting dairy products with lactose. In fact, you might think that your GF diet is failing when it really is a lactose problem getting in the way. If you think you might be lactose intolerant try making substitutions. For buttermilk, try yogurt and check out lactose-free milk in the grocery store.

Eat more fresh vegetables - Fresh vegetables do not contain grain proteins that you are allergic to. Why not have a large fresh salad every day? This is a great weight management strategy. Salads are very filling and provide many important nutrients you need. Just make sure and check the salad dressing and croutons closely. In fact, you may be better off making your own.

Cook with a friend - Have you ever noticed how frustrating it can be when you fail in the kitchen? Try to involve someone else in your GF cooking efforts. This will serve two purposes. One, you will have someone that can offer helpful advice, because two minds are better than one. Two, most things in life are enhanced when you share the experience.

Try Herbalife - There are some excellent products available that are made for people with food allergies. For instance, Herbalife Formula 1 is a great tasting shake that is free of gluten, soy, and dairy products. Plus, it is made for people that are watching their weight, so you can enjoy all the good things of GF living without any guilt.
