Different Types Of Heaters For Warming Your House

By Alex D White

As winter approaches, you need to be adequately prepared to deal with the cold weather. One great thing that you need to have in your house is a heater. There are quite a number of varied heaters in the market; thus, you would need to know the different types in order to make the best decision.

Electricity is the most commonly used source of fuel. Electric heaters are most suitable when it comes to heating a few people and not necessarily for heating a whole house. You can easily carry a portable fan heater around the house and use it to warm yourself in the desired room.

You may also opt to use oil column heaters if you intend the heat to cover a more expansive room area. The surface temperatures of these heaters are not dangerous and therefore not risky if you have small children. A fan heater can be a little noisy but it does a better job of moving warm air around the room more evenly as compared to oil column heaters.

You will agree that what you need is an energy efficient option that will serve you well. A heat pump is one type that fits that role. It is relatively cheap and quite efficient. You can get a small one appropriate for heating a small room and also get a big one to use in heating an open plan type of living room. These heaters come with an option of regulating the temperature to your desired degree and it can be used to cool the house during hot seasons.

Gas stove heaters may also be a suitable option for heating your house. Gas heaters ought to be fixed in the wall and also the flame should not be left naked to lessen the potential risks of a fire hazard. Gas could be less expensive however it produces harmful exhaust especially if you do not make use of the flued gas.

You may also consider the wood option of heating. Wood heaters are quite cheap especially if you rely on your own source of wood. A wood stove will keep your house warm during the cold spells as long you have enough wood.

Wood is not very economical when used to heat a house in an open fire place. This way, a lot of wood goes to waste. An open fire place also causes emissions such as smoke that may get into your house; hence, the better option is the closed wood stove.

Lastly, you can consider using the sun, as it is one of the most environmentally friendly home heating solutions. Two large East-West facing windows are all you need and you are good to go. You might also need to insulate the walls and floors of your house with thermal friendly materials to absorb and retain as much heat as possible. One problem though is that this method might not prove useful during winter when there is not even a short stint of sunshine experienced in a moment.
